Pakistan's FM calls for urgent global action on West Bank settlements and Gaza ceasefire violations at OIC meeting in New York.
Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar called for urgent international attention to Israeli settlement expansion and Gaza ceasefire violations at a meeting of the OIC Committee of Six on Palestine in New York. Dar said the Palestinian cause remained central to the Muslim world and outlined six priority points for coordinated diplomatic action by OIC member states.
- ▪Dar condemned Israeli settler violence, annexation policies, and settlement activity in the West Bank as flagrant violations of international law and UN resolutions.
- ▪He stated the Gaza ceasefire is being violated on an almost daily basis and praised mediating countries including the US, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey.
- ▪Israel has added 2,167 housing units to its E1 settlement plan, bringing the total to 3,401 units, drawing criticism from Palestinians and multiple countries.
- ▪UN data shows more than 1,600 settler-violence incidents across 275 Palestinian communities between January and mid-September, displacing over 2,600 Palestinians.
- ▪Dar called for protection of Al-Aqsa Mosque and Al-Haram Al-Sharif, rejecting Israeli settlement expansion and forced displacement in East Jerusalem.
- ▪He outlined six OIC priorities: safeguard holy sites, reject illegal settlements, support full Gaza peace plan implementation, ensure Palestinian-led reconstruction, support accountability for violations, and pursue a two-state solution based on pre-1967 borders.
- ▪Pakistan stressed its commitment to Palestinian statehood with Al-Quds as capital and full UN membership for Palestine.
- ▪Dar separately met with Libya’s acting foreign minister to discuss bilateral ties and exchanged views on Middle East developments.
- ▪He also met Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi to deepen cooperation in trade, investment, education, health, and digital IT.
- ▪Both Japan and Libya acknowledged Pakistan’s mediation efforts for regional peace and stability.
