Shah Noorani Truck Accident 17 Dead, 38 Injured

HUB: 17 passengers were killed and 38 injured as a truck carrying pilgrims to the Shah Noorani shrine veered off the road in Hub district, Balochistan.
The mishap occurred when a truck taking pilgrims from Thatta plunged into a ditch in Hub district while en route to the Shah Noorani shrine.
The police said that the driver, Karim Baksh, who sustained injuries, has been apprehended.
Talking reporters outside the Edhi morgue in Karachi’s Sohrab Goth, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Sakro, Wajid Ali said that over 70 individuals had embarked on the pilgrimage from Makli’s Qasim Jokhio village. He confirmed the identification of 15 out of the 17 deceased.
Rescue sources indicated that a total of 17 fatalities and 38 injuries were recorded.
Social worker Saad Edhi informed the media that news of the accident was received by 11 pm, with the rescue operation concluded within two hours. He detailed the transfer of deceased bodies to the Civil Hospital Hub and subsequently to the Edhi morgue. The injured were taken to the Civil Hospital in Karachi.
The accident, which occurred near Shah Noorani, was characterized by the truck losing control, resulting in casualties, Edhi explained.
He added that the deceased would be prepared for burial and transported to their hometown in Thatta.
Relatives of the victims, gathered outside the Edhi morgue, affirmed that all deceased would be laid to rest in their native village of Makli. They dismissed claims of a race between drivers, attributing the incident to the truck’s loss of control during a turn.
The families disclosed that 17 individuals perished in the accident, with 49 injured receiving treatment at Civil Hospital.
The pilgrims, all hailing from Qasim Goth village in Makli, make the annual journey together.
Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti directed immediate transfer of the injured to hospitals upon learning of the incident. Emergency measures were enforced at Jam Ghulam Qadir Hospital Hub, with instructions issued to commissioners of Kalat and Hub.
Bugti also instructed coordination with the Sindh government to facilitate the transfer of critically injured individuals to Karachi.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi extended condolences to the affected families and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
The Shah Noorani shrine, situated approximately 200km from Karachi in a remote mountainous area, has been the site of previous accidents, including a bus fire last year that claimed one life and injured several pilgrims.
Bus accidents are unfortunately common in Pakistan, with a recent incident in November 2023
